⬅ #129 Magikarp#131 Lapras ➡
Pokedex Entry #130: Gyarados is a Water/Flying Type Pokemon. It evolves from Magikarp.
When Magikarp evolves into Gyarados, its brain cells undergo a structural transformation. It is said that this transformation is to blame for this Pokémon's wildly violent nature.

My friend has one and its charged attack is dragon pulse

Unknown said...

I have a picture of it if you would like to add to the db

Mine also has dragon pulse

Anonymous said...

I have the worst gyrados. Though it has CP 1600, its moves are Dragonbreath96) and twister(15). I feel betrayed after spending 400 candies to evolve that magikarp.

Anonymous said...

Just evolved this baby a few hours ago: 1687 CP with Bite and Hydro Pump. That two weeks of farming Magikarp were so worth it!

Anonymous said...

What level was your magikarp to get 1600+ CP?

Anonymous said...

Got my Gyarados on my first day playing pokemon go, while laying in my hotel bed... Didn't even know it was a rare catch 😂 Has bite/hydro pump.

Anonymous said...

Same here! 😂😂😂

Linerd said...

Evolved three Gyrados and all got rubbish movesets. Wanted Dragon pulse or hydro pump.

Anonymous said...

2 days of farming. 152CP magickarp turned to 1750CP gyarados with dragon breath and dragon pulse.

zNeroz said...

i have dragon breath / hydro pump , lucky

Unknown said...

Anyone else bothered that the only way gyarados can get a STAB bonus is with hydro pump, since he isn't actually a dragon type?

Anonymous said...

400 candies for Magicarp to evolve? Well time to rent a boat and take a day off from work. XD

Anonymous said...

First one I got had dragon breath which is good, but Twister which sucks so badly. 2nd one has Byte and Dragon Claw, much much better!

Anonymous said...

Do the size and weigth have any influence on the attack moves it gets when evolving from Magikarp or is just mere luck?

Anonymous said...

I got dragonbreath + dragonpulse, not sure whether its good though. Any thoughts pleasd ?

Anonymous said...

Following the above!

Anonymous said...

I found one at a lure that is hydro pump90 and bite6 and I have 150 candy. Should I keep going to evolve or power up the one I have??

Anonymous said...

One popped up at the Green in downtown Dover, DE.

Anonymous said...

Best attack combination after update is EITHER Bite or Dragon Breath (depends on your area - if its flooded with Dragons then Dragon Breath, if its flooded with Psychics and Ghosts then Bite). Best to have Hydro Pump because its it's only STAB DPS. Neither fast attacks have STAB so I prefer Dragon Breath because everyone and their mom has Dragonite now. Make sure you check your Gyarados' IV as well. I got lucky with mine.

Anonymous said...

I have 3 90%+ IV Gyarados all with the same crappy moveset. Bite and Twister! I basically farmed 1,200 magikarp candies for nothing.

Unknown said...

Actually dragon pulse is the best. Even though it doesn't get STAB. It's 1.3 damage per energy. Hydro pump is 1.1 damage per energy even with STAB. Cooldown doesn't matter. It takes 7.5 seconds to build enough energy to even use hydro pump. You could have used dragon pulse twice.

Anonymous said...

Farmed 3 gyarados for 3 weeks. First two had twister+bite. Legit the worse you can have, just forget about it and keep grinding. My third one finally had the hydro pump. so glad, it destroys gyms

size and stuff dont matter. the moveset is completely random, all about luck

I'm the guy who posted as Anonymous with the 90%+ IV Gyarados... my 4th Gyarados is also a damn Bite+Twister combination... all 4 of my Gyarados have the same damn worst move set. Is Niantic out to fuck me over or something? What gives?

Anonymous said...

I'm the guy who posted as Anonymous about farming 3 Gyarados with the worst moveset: bite+twister... My 4th Gyarados is the same as the last 3! What the hell?!

DaN said...

I've mailed Ninatic to request that they offer a TM system of sorts, where a player can activate a TM module and change the move set for say 3 Pokemon.

So if you have a decent IV Gyarados, but the dreaded twister you could change that to Hydro Pump or Dragon Pulse.

EVERY Pokemon game as the option to learn moves, so I don't see why they can't offer it to players with decent Pokemon, let down by having the worst move from the 3 available.

My Gyarados has Bite and Dragon Pulse
IVs: 15/15/15

I'm happy with it as it's a decent counter for the waves of Dragonite that are around now.

Unknown said...

Mines a 100% magikarp and luckily it evolved into a gyarados with hydro pump.

I evolved my magikarp and got Dragon Breath and Dragon Pulse... Time to update the website for charge up skills? :)

And to whomever was wondering, I have a 97% gyarados so no, 93%+ doesn't always give Twister lol. Just bad luck I guess.

Anonymous said...

My Gyarados has Dragon Breath (damage 6) as its quick attack

Anonymous said...

Finally evolved mine today after waiting an additional 2 weeks to make sure I wouldn't get a higher cp or better IV to start... Near perfect with all 3 95+... Bite and twister... TWISTER!!! Ugh! So disappointed...

126 more candies and I can evolve another...

Anonymous said...

Made sure my first Magikarp to evolve was high IV, was able to capture a 100%! When it evolved, it had Dragon Breath and Hydro Pump, so now I have a perfect Gyarados in all fields!
One happy water Pokémon trainer!

The Inceptionist said...

Caught a 100% iv gyarados with bite and hydro pump. But cp is only 600. Im lvl 25 should I power him up?

Anonymous said...

All of my gyrados had their fast attack changed to bite. Niantic removed dragon breath from the game for gyrados

Unknown said...

I had a 100% IV Magikarp and when i evolved it i got Bite and Twister. 400 candies and good Magikarp turned to nothing.

Anonymous said...

Niantic did not remove dragon breath from my 2 Gyarados. Guess You have bad luck. Gyar 1: dragon breath ; dragon pulse. Gyar 2: bite ; twister. Gyar 3: Bite ; Twister. Gyar 4: Dragon Breath ; Hydro Pump. All IV 80%+

Anonymous said...

my friend manage to capture one at the beach with cp 200++ lol

Unknown said...

Caught one cp 700 bite 6 & dragon pulse 65

TFV29 said...

It is not true that Dragon Breath has been removed, my Gyarados still has it!
However DB/Dragon Pulse has DPS 15,04 vs DB/Hydro Pump DPS 18,11, Dragon Pulse is better only against Dragonite

Unknown said...

Hope they implement a way to change the secondary move. This random move setup is whack. M almost perfect gyarados has bite/twister.. 30/30 - 14/15..FML

Anonymous said...

Got a 100% Gyarados with bite and hydro pump. She's perfect. ^_^

Anonymous said...

I evolved my 154cp magikarp and I get 1605cp 124hp Gyrados with bite 6 and hydro pump 90...gotchaaa...

Anonymous said...

why ppl keep saying they have a gyarados with dragonbreath as a fast move, but then this site said that bite is the only its fast move?

Anonymous said...

Dragon breath is a fast move. The site is wrong and should be updated.

Anonymous said...

Gyarados's move set was changed on the July 31st update, so he can no longer have dragonbreath as a basic attack.

Kevin said...

My first 2 gyarados has bite and twister. It was super lame to get that after 800 candies. My third got dragon pulse, fourth Got water pump, and fifth got dragon pulse. All 5 have bite quick attack. All 5 are 2200+ CP. pretty happy twister didnt happen again.

Kevin said...

Here are the 5 of them http://imgur.com/ztfr8dU

Anonymous said...

Evolved a 146 cp egg magikarp into a 361cp gyarados. Piece of shit with worst skill set. 98% IV though.

Anonymous said...

Gyarados can have dragon breath as fast mobe, I've seen with my own eyes!

Anonymous said...

Dragon moves for Gayarados have been removed by Niantic for future evolves. IF you evolved one prior and it has the moveset, you get to keep it. They removed dragon moves from current and future evolves. Just like Rock throw/Rockslide for Omastar, and Mudshot/Earthquake for Golem.

Anonymous said...

Finally! My first Gayarados! 90 IV Bite and Hydro Pump 1852 CP. I'm so happy! I play without TuTuHepler. I am for fair play!

Anonymous said...

I have one with bite and hydro pump, and 100% IV

Anonymous said...

I got one with Dragon Breath and Dragon Pulse and 100% IV so stoked!

Anonymous said...

gyarados proved popular in my local gyms thanks to the abundance of magikarp. though optimal moveset raichu is capable of the most damage to them, magneton and the fairies are also options as gyarados is more likely to have dragon moves.

lv.30 cp2812
ATK 15/DEF 15/STM 15
bite/hydro pump
my attacker unit (sometimes defense), and one of my most treasured specimens.
i'm hoping mega evolution gets in sometime in the future, that way it'll get stab from bite.

lv.29 cp2679
ATK 15/DEF 11/STM 13
bite/dragon pulse
my defender unit.

Finally! After 7 months capturing 103 Magikarp's and 400 Magikarp candies I evolved my 117 Magikarp named useless fish into a 1881 cp Gyarados named sea dragon with 123 HP, bite, and hydro pump.

Feer said...

Now Gyarados cant learn outrage (SpecialAttack) please , Add

BringHeat said...

Now that Gen 2 is out, things have changed! I just evolved a Magikarp into a Gyarados with Dragon Tail attack, 15 damage! I also noticed this chart no longer includes Dragon Breath, of which I have at least one which still has that attack. What gives?

Britting said...

I walked 117km. Just evolved my Magikarp. Got the worst moveset, of course.

Anonymous said...

Do magikarp obtained before the gen 2 update get dragon tail or not?

Real Steel said...

Lvl 30 2876 cp
Just got him today dragon tail 15 and outrage 110
Ready for the gym good hunting guys

Anonymous said...

Yes, just evolved my magikarp obstained on 3th of september 2016 finally :) . Found nothing better than 96% IV stats. Moveset was dragon tail and hydro pump

Anonymous said...

male cp2589 lv.28
ATK 14/DEF 14/STM 12
dragon tail/hydro pump
my 1st gen II gyarados and my 6th overall. going to use it alongside my 100% bite/hydro pump one.

Anonymous said...

Is it just my imagination or indeed Gyarados has a new look, I think my Gyarados' color becomes darker than before

Anonymous said...

I've just evolved my 100 iv Magikarp to a Gyarados with byte and outrage. Disappointed!!!

Anonymous said...

some pkmn appeared to have had their shaders fiddled with at the start of the water festival. gyarados is most notable as that made it noticeably darker.

i'd hang on to any with a dark move in case mega evolution finds its way to GO someday. outrage is very much on par with hydro pump because of the damage it does for its energy cost, and will blow holes in near-anything.

i'm using 3 of the 7 gyarados that i've obtained, just 19 candies away toward an 8th.

Unknown said...

Where are the best locations to catch a lot of magikarp? I'm near a small lake and only find maybe 2 a day...

Anonymous said...

Just evolved my 100% IV Magi into Gyarados and got Dragon Tail (Dragon) and Crunch (Dark). Think im happy with that ...!? my other Gyarados has Bite and Hydro Pump

Anonymous said...

I just evolved my shiny Magikarp yesterday and luckily got a shiny Gyarados which I named red sea dragon, with dragon tail and hydro pump.

Anonymous said...

Just Evolved my first Magikarp into 2000 CP Gyarados with Dragon Tail and Hydro Pump

Unknown said...

I evolved a 176 CP 100% IV Magikarp during the water event and ended up with Dragon Tail and Crunch. Just got my first charge TM machine today and now he has Dragon Tail and Hydro Pump :D.

Poof McSwish said...

And of course my hard-earned machine just changed my Gyrados from Dragon Pulse to... Crunch.

>_<

I have a RED Gyarados. I haven't seen anyone else with one yet. He has Dragon Tail and Outrage. I just took over a gym (easier now with the new system) and Installed my candy apple red Gyarados!

Anonymous said...

I have a just gotten a 2238cp Gyarados with Dragon Tail and Outrage. I'm a level 23 so is this any good?
