THIS GUY GOT NERF SO BAD IN POKEMON GO.... MAX CP PER LEVEL SO LOW... HE CAN COMPETE WITH THE OTHER GUYS

Anonymous said...

this i my favorite pokemon and im tryng to got one, i read the psycho cut is the best dps atack for fight? so it got nerf is not good anymore?

Anonymous said...

It's still the highest dps quick move, but Alakazam as a pokemon has terrible cp and is thus unusable in high level battles.

How bad is his Max CP for trainer level/ what is he comparable to?

Anonymous said...

I'm level 21 and Alakazam's max CP is at this level is 1086

Got a 95.6% Alakazam, from the comments should I even keep leveling him up???

Anonymous said...

CanaPaint, what is his moveset? If it doesn't have psycho cut, I would hold off (me personally). But if it has psycho cut and psychic, 100% level that b**** up!

I have one with confusion + shadow ball, and confusion is just sooo slow (2.5x slower than psycho cut). I almost have enough candies for a second, and i'm hoping I get psycho cut + whatever. Psychic is significantly better than either shadow ball or dazzling gleam. He's a glass cannon, he can't take hits and survive but he sure can dish them out. This is just one player's opinion.

dazzling gleam : 55 x 3 = 165
psychic : 55 x 1.25 (stab) = 68.75 x 2 = 137.5
shadow ball : 45 x 3 = 135

assuming you fill up all 3 of its energy bar's segments and unload all 3 attacks at the gym defender, dazzling gleam beats both psychic and shadow ball in terms of cumulative damage. gleam's damage is higher to make up for its long cooldown.
therefore i would wait for the gym defender to evoke its charge move and dodge that attack, then begin blasting at it with consecutive charge moves.
though because of gleam's long cooldown per attack, 'zam will be taking some punishment, but it shouldn't matter as long as you can ensure the foe is going down anyway.

alakazam's sub-2000 CP ceiling, frailty, and being relatively harder to obtain than the (arguably) more viable mono-psychic in hypno ('zam's 125 candies vs. hypno's 50) is a turn off, but at least it has something going for it in being able to have psycho cut.

shadow ball has its merits too - psychic/ghost hits the entire kanto dex unresisted while countering other psychics.

he is the worst pokemon in this gsme if you compare him to how strong he usually should be! dont understand why niantic did that :(((

Hi guys,
I've evolved my abra to a 1099 cp alakazam with psychic cut / shadow ball. He has 91% IV with attack at max. Im not quite sure if I should cry or not because of the awfully slow shadow ball. Otherwise works well against gengar..... Tried it out on a 2200+cp machamp and it was quite easy to take him downonly using psychic cut. Do you think i should level him up (im level 28)? I walked more than 300 km for this bastard

I have an Alakazam with Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball, I recently managed to evolve another Alakazam with Psycho Cut and Psychic. For attacking gyms, that's the moveset that you want. Shadow Ball can be useful in certain situations but Dazzling Gleam is ultimately what kills him.

My Alakazam got focus blast (120) as its charge mvoe, is that a new move with the gen2?

Just evolved my third Alakazam and got confusion/future sight. Funny looking back at the comments and seeing how things have changed

Deli said...

I feel shadow ball 2x100 = 200 is better then future sight 1x120 with stab =150
And then confusion= 20 and psycho cut= 5
What would you say are the best movesets now with the update .... the nerfed psycho cut makes it a hard decision ...

Anonymous said...

confusion/future sight is the best damage-wise for gym offense.
however considering alakazam's frailness, some may prefer psycho cut for dodging ability, but all psycho cut combinations without future sight are inferior.

legacy psycho cut/psychic is bottom 3 worst now. still using my old alakazam until I find something else to be my flagship psychic attacker.
i did get a 93% confusion/shadow ball alakazam though, the 3rd best for gym offense, and #1 for defense.
could prove useful against other psychics - confusion is more brutal than ever.

Deli said...

So your saying that psycho cut and future sight are the best movesets... im still not sure ... i have 93% with psycho cut and shadow ball and 95% with confusion and shadow ball .. it's hard to decide if I should power 1 of them up ... and which one and why ??? I tried using the hypno with future sight to compare to the alakazm shadow ball and it was just little better then just 1 of the shadow balls .. they had pretty much the same cp level ..

Anonymous said...

Future Sight is a must on Alakazam and Espeon.

But the first move is debatable by gym dodging ability.
I argue that Confusion obviously hits harder for max DPS, but Psycho cut does nearly equal dps in the right situations based on Alakazam's frailness.

Though, the best Psychic Attacker I believe is Espeon with Zen Headbutt/Future Sight. Some argue this, but it's the same point as Psycho cut allowing you to move in battle quicker, but Espeon is far stronger with it, probably beating out Confusion in most cases for speed battling.

Got another alakazm 97.8iv confusion=20 and focus blast =140 is this worth investing stardust into or not and why ?

Anonymous said...

I evolved a 92iv alakazam shortly before the update with confusion/psyhic. Is he worth powering up, or should I farm for another one and hope for future sight? I think confusion/psycho cut are roughly equal in their merit - PC allows better dodging and very fast power build up with less damage while confusion just hits like a train. Let me know your opinions peeps!

always a chance psychic might have some merit again assuming an overhaul in gym mechanics. the problem now is that future sight eclipses psychic completely, unfortunate for our legacy 'zams.
i said this about typhlosion and how fire blast is completely eclipsed by overheat on it; numerous pkmn have 2 moves of the same type and energy cost, but in some cases one is blatantly superior to the other.
the average GO player will assume the inferior of these move pairings are a tacked-on "bad roll" move, i on the other hand think its a sign of what's to come in the incoming major gym revamp.

secondary effects (i.e, status inflictions, stat modification, etc) might be making their way to GO, in a modified form appropriate for its battle engine. if charge moves gained their secondary effects, then psychic, which could be made to have a chance of reducing defense, could make it something worth running over fsight, which will just be a power move (it was a delayed attack in the main games, a mechanic GO likely won't incorporate).
on the other hand, psycho cut is tier 3 for EPS, so theoretically you'll be firing off psychic a lot, with more chances at reducing the opponent's defense.

in fact some of this functionality for secondary effects is already present in the game in a currently inactive form, as moves have parameters for HP absorption and critical hits.

to be able to have secondary effects on charge moves could help with the current blissey scourge, as well as when much more stronger pkmn begin to come out, like slaking and pretty much any of the legendaries.

as an extension to my previous comment, there is unfinished item data for battle items : x attack, x defense, and x miracle.
while x miracle is a new item for GO, the other two buffed atk/def in the main games.
hinting that they have stat modifications in the plans.

(but do we seriously need them cluttering up our limited bag space further?)

I'm level 25 and the max CP for Alakazam is over 2,300 CP. It's one of the best Pokémon you can have right now, what with the raid battle update and gym rework.
